Yesterday, it was Good Friday, so I scraped up the courage to watch the 2004 “Passion of the Christ.” It is a brutal film.
I really don’t like watching it. The viewer is left tense, jaw tightened, wincing and shuddering. The flogging. The falling. The nails going in.
Father forgive them, for they know not what they do!
O God, he is so beautiful.
Behold, I make all things new.
Yes, the torture and the killing fields and the rape and the child molesting and the petty nastiness…. and all those human wrecks on the Greyhound bus, in all their mangled beauty and pain…. He will forgive all of us, He shall make all things new.
Let me see thy face, let me hear thy voice; for thy voice is sweet, and thy face is beautiful!
